Slivers

I can apply slivers in innumerable ways to this building- or I can let the sliver order the design logically. This is what I'm having trouble with- I can't move forward on technical aspects until I get this form at least partially nailed down.

An article about the "sliver" architecture in Tokyo, building on left over pieces of land: http://www.treehugger.com/files/2007/05/billboard_build.php

Anne, I don't think you would have to go quite as literal. The big thing that came up in your crit was the question if the slivers would only be outside your buildings, or if a similar idea of connection from sidewalk to pike could happen thru the buildings; maybe an alignment of open vs. closed spaces to allow for a front to back thru-view would be a good start. This could be aided registrations on floor and ceiling.
You should indeed nail your plan and then move the more technical aspects along. Five stories vs. four would help you potentially to free up some mor e ground floor space to strenghen your concept of meadow.

I agree with Werner - a taller building will allow you less footprint. The link that you posted shows some interesting ideas... what if you brought some green space inside, so that at night when the building is lit, it would show through? In the dark, you wouldn't be able to see the green space, but if it was inside and behind clear glazing, you could see green at night.
